Insurance estimates
Evidence checked October 24, 2026. These are provisional comparisons, not insurer quotes or a statement that a policy is currently in force.
Coverage follows how you buy
On Sedans & Teslas, a purchase paid entirely by trade-in and cash uses liability only. Any positive amount financed switches that car to full coverage. All leases use full coverage. Explorer and 7-Seater comparisons retain full coverage even when a large down payment pays the balance; their no-trade financing assumptions remain 7.5% APR and 72 months by default.
Historical baseline
A verified April–October 2026 declaration lists one 2020 Kia Telluride at $215 for six months ($35.83/month). Its 30/65/25 liability package also includes non-deductible PIP with loss of income, plus 30/65 UM and UIM. There is no comprehensive or collision premium. The historical vehicle location is Hurricane, Utah, in the St. George area; this is not an exact St. George ZIP quote. Only the coverage and cost needed for this comparison are used here.
The premium excludes restart charges and installment fees. It is a historical liability calibration, not a verified full-coverage baseline. PIP/UM/UIM are assumed retained when comparing replacement cars; their exact cost at different limits is unknown. Driver ages, current rating factors, credit, annual-mileage discounts and future underwriting are not established. Historical discounts may not transfer.
How the estimates are calculated
Monthly insurance = ($215 ÷ 6) × public model ratio, rounded to the nearest $5 before any editable percentage adjustment. An entered monthly quote replaces that estimate for the specific car and coverage; it is not percentage-adjusted. Blank restores the estimate. Both mileage scenarios use the same insurance amount, since no verified mileage-rated insurance quote is available.
For most models, the liability ratio is that model’s annual liability rate ÷ the Telluride’s $1,139 annual liability rate. The full-coverage ratio is the model’s annual full-coverage rate ÷ $1,139. For example, Explorer is $2,357 ÷ $1,139 = 2.069×, producing about $75/month. Telluride full coverage is $2,367 ÷ $1,139 = 2.078×; model-to-Telluride full ratios can be recovered by dividing each full ratio below by 2.078.
Full coverage is a provisional extrapolation with substantial uncertainty. Public liability benchmarks generally use 50/100/50; the historical package uses 30/65/25. Public full benchmarks use 100/300/100 and $500 comprehensive/collision deductibles. Applying a personal liability discount factor to higher limits and physical-damage coverage assumes that relative pricing transfers; it does not establish an insurer’s price for those coverages. This coverage-limit and package mismatch is a limitation, not an exact conversion. Tesla liability benchmarks use 100/300/100, so their liability comparison also differs from the Telluride’s published liability benchmark.
National model cohorts are proxies for local relative costs. They are not controlled comparisons of the same two drivers, model year or trim. Liability cost depends much less on repair value than comprehensive/collision; the Tesla/EV physical-damage premium is therefore applied only in full coverage. Most tables were updated in 2025, although reviewed here in October 2026. No unsupported inflation, trim, FSD, rebuilt-title or model-year discount is added. The Tesla table labeled 2020–2025 is an insurance-price time trend and is not used as a model-year adjustment.
Fusion full rates are explicitly $2,181/year for 2020 and $2,155 for 2019; the latter is a model proxy for the hybrid, without a trim surcharge. Fusion liability uses Insurify’s matched pooled $106/$104 ratio. Optima uses Compare.com’s matched Optima/Telluride ratios ($122/$104 liability and $209/$195 full); its full ratio is multiplied by the standardized Telluride full/liability ratio. These quote-population proxies do not specify fixed limits. They are less comparable than the standardized table, and neither is a personal quote.
Lease and lender requirements
Tesla Lease Trust’s US terms require at least 100/300/50 liability, physical damage for the full vehicle value, a maximum $2,500 deductible, and the trust as lienholder/additional insured. Third-party Tesla lessors may differ. Our 100/300/100 and $500 benchmark exceeds this coverage floor.
Ford Credit’s US lease-trust prospectus requires physical damage and liability, generally state-minimum liability, a maximum $1,000 deductible, and the titling company as additional insured/loss payee. This retrieved primary document is from 2021; an October 2026 review of Ford’s 2026 filing reports the same terms. The signed lease governs. Ford’s Canadian FAQ is not used for US liability requirements.
Deductible pricing limitation: estimates retain the conservative $500 source basis. They are not prices at the maximum $2,500 Tesla or $1,000 Ford deductible. No defensible model-specific discount for raising deductibles was found, so no savings is invented. A quote at the permitted maximum may differ. For financed cars, comprehensive/collision protects the lender’s interest; confirm exact limits, deductibles and loss-payee wording with the actual lender. 100/300/100 is this comparison’s assumption, not a claim every lender requires those liability limits.
Public model evidence
Ratios below are relative to the Telluride liability benchmark, because the historical baseline is liability-only. Full ratios include both the coverage upgrade and the model’s relative cost. National tables are intended to compare models, not promise a price. Insurance.com’s sample profile is age 40, clean driving record and good credit; those are public benchmark assumptions, not inferred personal facts.

Use an insurer quote for the actual VIN, garaging ZIP, drivers, liability/PIP/UM/UIM limits and deductible before committing. The monthly quote inputs preserve the two coverage types separately so paying a purchase off cannot silently carry a full-coverage quote into the liability scenario.
New outright sedans
The 16 newly researched sedans use liability only under an outright purchase scenario. The cash input is a budget; any additional cash required after the Telluride trade is shown separately. These estimates use the historical baseline and rounding above. Model/year/trim differences and quote-population mismatches remain uncertain; these are not personal quotes.
