The monthly cost of your next car.

Listings, leases and their running costs.

Key takeaways Finding the lowest monthly cost…

FSD inclusion is seller reported; confirm it on the vehicle and account. HW3 = “FSD Lite” for this comparison. FSD is supervised driver assistance and requires an attentive driver.

How the estimates work

Purchases

Negotiated targets are estimates, generally 3–6% below dealer asking prices; Carvana prices are firm. Targets are used by default. The after-trade balance includes Utah tax on the positive price-minus-trade difference, the listed doc fee (or the editable default), and any recorded extra fee. Cash then reduces the amount financed, with a zero floor.

The total is loan payment + fuel or electricity + insurance + maintenance + monthly registration + charger allocation + optional FSD. Cash and trade are shown separately; they are not added back to the monthly purchase total. This measures monthly cash outlay, with no resale or depreciation estimate.

Energy and equipment

Both columns use the same car and assumptions, at 10,000 and 15,000 miles per year. Gas uses the listing’s estimated mpg; EVs use editable kWh per 100 miles. A $1,500 home charger is spread over 60 months for purchases and the lease term for leases. Ford’s advertised charger waiver is conditional; confirm installation coverage.

Leases

Quoted rates, signing amounts and listing-specific caveats are in each car’s details. The trade reduces cap cost by an approximate 3% of its value each month ($330 at an $11,000 trade). Only cash above the quoted signing amount can further reduce cap cost; cash beyond the usable amount is left unused. Payments have a zero floor, then lease tax is applied.

Signing costs, excluding the original first payment to avoid counting it twice, are spread over the lease term. The upfront figure replaces that first payment with the adjusted payment. Trade equity is not charged a second time. At the default 10,000-mile allowance, driving 15,000 miles adds $104.17 per month in overage, plus incremental energy. Putting trade equity into a lease is an estimate, not a recommended down payment.

Before deciding

Unavailable and pending cars stay in the comparison but cannot win a recommendation. “Best value Tesla” means the lowest estimated monthly outlay among available, verified used Teslas; the family pick is the lowest-cost eligible Model Y. Check battery health, title, hardware, insurance quotes and FSD transfer. Utah’s EVRAP program may be worth reviewing; eligibility and funding are not assumed.
